Robert L. Bernasconi (född 1950) är Edwin Erle Sparks professor i filosofi vid Pennsylvania State University . Han är känd som en läsare av Martin Heidegger och Emmanuel Levinas , och för sitt arbete med begreppet ras . Han har också skrivit om filosofins historia.
Karriär
Bernasconi doktorerade från Sussex University . Han undervisade vid University of Essex i tretton år innan han tillträdde en position vid University of Memphis . Hösten 2009 flyttade han från Memphis till filosofiavdelningen vid Pennsylvania State University . Bernasconi kommer från en akademisk familj och föddes i Newcastle, Storbritannien. Hans bror John är chef för konst vid University of Hull. Familjen har italiensk bakgrund.
Intressen
Förutom omfattande arbeten om Heidegger och Levinas har Bernasconi skrivit om Immanuel Kant , Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel , Hannah Arendt , Hans-Georg Gadamer , Jean-Paul Sartre , Frantz Fanon , Jacques Derrida och många andra.
I början av 1990-talet började Bernasconi utveckla ett intresse för begreppen ras och rasism , särskilt i förhållande till filosofins historia. Förutom att skriva många artiklar om ras, rasism, slaveri , afrikansk filosofi och relaterade ämnen, har han också redigerat och publicerat primärt material med anknytning till dessa teman.
