Mike Richmond (musiker)

Mike Richmond (född 26 februari 1948 i Philadelphia ) är en amerikansk jazzbasist .

Richmond började på gitarr och plockade sedan upp bas i sina tidiga tonåringar. Han gick på Temple University (1965–1970) och studerade med Edward Arian från Philadelphia Orchestra. Efter lektioner med Jimmy Garrison i början av 1970-talet började han uppträda med Chico Hamilton och Arnie Lawrence , och arbetade även med Stan Getz , Jack DeJohnette , Horace Silver , Joe Henderson , Lee Konitz , Hubert Laws , Franco Ambrosetti , Dannie Richmond , Gil Evans , Art . Farmer , Woody Herman och George Gruntz .

Från och med 1980 ägnade Richmond tid åt att lära sig sitar , resa till Madras , Indien och uppträda live med Ravi Shankar . Han ledde Mingus-dynastin (ersätter Mingus) från 1980–1985 och började undervisa vid New York University 1988 (Årets lärare, 1991 & 1994).

Richmond vann en Grammy Award för Miles & Quincy Live på Montreux . Hans bok Modern Walking Bass Technique används internationellt.
