Underwood–Miller Inc. var ett litet science fiction- och fantasyförlag i San Francisco, Kalifornien, grundat 1976. Det grundades av Tim Underwood, en bok- och konsthandlare i San Francisco, och Chuck Miller, en återförsäljare av begagnade böcker i Pennsylvania . , efter att de två hade träffats på ett konvent .

Underwood och Miller valde att börja med en första inbunden upplaga av The Dying Earth av Jack Vance . Detta var en klassisk fantasyroman som aldrig gjorts i inbunden. Både Donald M. Grant, Publisher, Inc. och Mirage Press hade försökt publicera The Dying Earth men hade misslyckats med att få rättigheterna. Underwood var bekant med Vance och kunde säkra rättigheterna direkt från honom. Vance var entusiastisk, hade flera andra projekt i åtanke och blev den författare som mest identifierades med pressen. Pressen diversifierade sig och började publicera verk av andra författare som Philip K. Dick , Harlan Ellison , Robert Silverberg och Roger Zelazny . I flera sådana fall tryckte de aktuella böckerna nyligen gjorda berättelser som antingen endast förekommit i tidningsform eller endast i pocket, utan tidigare inbunden upplaga.

1994 beslutade Underwood och Miller att upplösa partnerskapet. Som sin sista bok tryckte de om The Dying Earth .

Avtryck

• Underwood–Miller lanserade Brandywyne Books i samarbete med Waldenbooks i mitten av 1980-talet. Imprinten grundades för att få ut begränsade upplagor som Underwood-Miller hade gjort för science fiction , men för alla genrer.
• Underwood–Miller publicerade The Third Invention: How the Bow and Arrow Made History , av Steve Hayes, 1990 som "A Hammersmith Book—An Imprint of Underwood–Miller". Det var den enda bok som publicerades under detta avtryck.
• Underwood–Miller publicerade Computer: Bit Slices from a Life , av Herbert RJ Grosch , 1991 som "A Third Millennium/Underwood–Miller Book". Det var den enda bok som publicerades under detta avtryck.
