Megascelis är ett släkte av bladbaggar i underfamiljen Eumolpinae . Den är känd från både Nord- och Sydamerika . Det finns omkring 140 beskrivna arter i Megascelis .

Släktet är traditionellt placerat i stammen Megascelidini , som tidigare ansågs vara en separat underfamilj. Men enligt ITIS är den nu placerad i Eumolpini .

Nomenklatur

Det generiska namnet " Megascelis " dök först upp som ett nomen nudum i Dejeans Catalog of Coleoptera 1821. Enligt Barber & Bridwell (1940) blev namnet Megascelis tillgängligt i Sturm (1826), där arten Megascelis aenea beskrivs. Denna art anses vara typen av släktet. Men enligt Tiape Gómez & Savini (2001) ska namnet Megascelis istället tillskrivas Latreille (1825), som var den första som gav en beskrivning av släktet.
