George E. McCarthy blev National Endowment for the Humanities Distinguished Teaching Teaching Professor of Sociology 2000. Han har varit forskare vid universitetet i Frankfurt am Main, gästprofessor vid Institutet för statsvetenskap vid universitetet i München , och senior Fulbright forskare i filosofi och sociologi vid universitetet i Kassel . Han har mottagit ett Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), Fulbright Research Fellowship och ett NEH Research Fellowship . McCarthys kurser vid Kenyon College fokuserar på etik och social rättvisa , politisk och social teori , filosofi och vetenskapssociologi , tyskt samhällstänkande och grekisk filosofi / litteratur och amerikansk politisk ekonomi .
