Denki är en interaktiv TV- och konsolspelsutvecklare baserad i Dundee , Skottland. Företaget är utvecklare av över 180 konsol- och interaktiva tv-spel som täcker en rad plattformar. Denki har arbetat mycket på marknaden för digital interaktiv TV (IDTV), med majoriteten av deras titlar skapade specifikt för digital interaktiv TV- plattform för DirecTV .

Historia

Denki grundades den 20 mars 2000 av fyra tidigare DMA Design -anställda. Företaget skapades för att vara en designdriven utvecklingsstudio, fokuserad på att skapa videospel. Denkis avsikt var att utveckla spel för en mängd olika mindre plattformar, inklusive Game Boy Advance , som företaget såg som öppnar spelmarknaden för en ny, mer "casual" publik.

Företaget skapade två nya originalspel för Game Boy Advance. Det första var ett pusselspel som heter Denki Blocks! Publicerad av Rage Software i september 2001. Detta följdes av ett plattformsspel som heter Go! Gå! Beckham! Adventure on Soccer Island – baserat på den berömda engelska fotbollsspelaren – även publicerad av Rage i augusti 2002. Båda spelen fick stor kritik och Denki Blocks! fått flera utmärkelser. Försäljningen av båda titlarna motsvarade dock inte förväntningarna.

Som en del av kampanjkampanjen för Denki Blocks! , skapade företaget en version av spelet för den nylanserade speltjänsten på Sky Television i Storbritannien. Responsen på spelet var positiv och Denki tog beslutet att fokusera på denna nya plattform.

Digital interaktiv tv-spel

Denki Blocks! , Denkis första titel för Sky Television släpptes den 9 oktober 2001 när Sky Gamestar lanserades. Den var tillgänglig för alla Sky digitala abonnenter, med endast standard set-top box och kontroller. Med tanke på det positiva svaret på denna första titel, ombads Denki att skapa ett antal andra titlar för Sky – både original och baserade på märken från tv och filmer.

Under de kommande sju åren fokuserade Denki på DiTV-spel. Företaget förfinade sin design- och utvecklingsprocess till en punkt där det kunde ta ett överenskommet designdokument och producera en färdig titel på mindre än tio veckor.

Varumärken och licenser

Denki har arbetat med många av världens största medieföretag och släppt spel baserade på kända karaktärer, varumärken och licenser från hela film-, tv- och videospelsindustrin.

I maj 2007 tecknade Denki ett avtal med Waterfront om att tillhandahålla spel till DirecTV i Nordamerika för DirecTV:s nya Games Lounge-tjänst. Denki gav från början nio spel även om det antalet har ökat.

I september 2008 meddelade Denki att DiTV-spel skulle bli en mycket mindre del av företagets produktion, eftersom företaget återgick till sin ursprungliga filosofi att skapa nya originalspel, speciellt inriktade på leksaker, nöje och drama.

I januari 2009 lanserade Denki DenkiOrNot.com, ett onlinespel som utmanar spelare att identifiera den mest "Denki"-bilden från flera par. Deltagare som framgångsrikt identifierar majoriteten av bilderna erbjuds sedan möjligheten att kontakta företagets rekryteringsavdelning.

Icke-DiTV-projekt

Medan majoriteten av titlarna skapade av Denki under denna period var för DiTV-plattformar, arbetade företaget också med två andra betydande projekt

InQuizitor är ett spelbaserat inlärningsverktyg, skapat i samarbete med det pedagogiska spelföretaget 3MRT. lDenki tillhandahöll grafiska designtjänster till företaget och utvecklade sedan spelet med 3MRT. InQuizitor släpptes i september 2008. Det används av utbildningsinstitutioner över hela Storbritannien och Europa. InQuizitor har vunnit ett antal troféer, inklusive 2007 års eLearning Award.

Crackdown är ett sandlådespel utvecklat av Realtime Worlds för Xbox 360 . När Realtime Worlds först skapade konceptet tillhandahöll Denki design- och ljudkonsulttjänster för projektet. Denkis bidrag var avgörande för att hjälpa Realtime Worlds att säkra sitt publiceringsavtal med Microsoft för titeln. Crackdown släpptes i februari 2007. Spelet fick positiv kritik och ett antal utmärkelser.

Konsolprojekt

Efter företagets beslut att fokusera på den nya generationen plattformar, arbetade Denki på två nya originalspel.

Gräl är ett strategiordpusselspel, beskrivet som "Countdown meets Risk". Det utvecklas för Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA). I augusti 2009 visade Denki Quarrel offentligt för första gången, vid Dare to be Digital ProtoPlay-evenemanget. Flera hundra personer bjöds in att spela spelet och ge feedback till företaget. Denki använder denna information för att polera och forma de sista månaderna av utveckling. 2011 plockades Quarrel upp av UTV Ignition Entertainment för iOS-enheter, XBLA och Facebook.

Andra spel

Den 20 maj 2010 släppte Denki Denki Blocks! för iOS-enheter, följt av Denki Blocks! HD specifikt för iPad den 23 juli 2010. Detta följdes av ett helt nytt spel den 19 juni 2010 kallat Juggle! .

Den 16 juli 2010 släppte Denki Denki Blocks! Dagligt träningspass för Facebook.

Den 2 augusti 2010 meddelade Denki att de hade skickat in Juggle! för peer review på Xbox Live Indie Games- tjänsten. Den släpptes den 7 september 2010.

Den 7 juni 2011 meddelade UTV Ignition Entertainment att de skulle ta med Quarrel till iOS-enheter, XBLA och Facebook. Quarrel släpptes på iOS den 25 augusti 2011. Den 17 oktober 2011 tillkännagavs spelet som nominerat till en BAFTA Scotland-pris.

Den 17 september 2012 meddelade Denki att Ludometrics skapade en ny version av Bips! , baserat på en befintlig Denki-prototyp. Spelet lanserades så småningom på Facebook i januari 2013.

Den 8 november 2012 meddelade Denki att Save the Day var live.

Den 10 december 2012 tillkännagav Denki lanseringen av Denki Word Quest! . Den 22 november 2013 tillkännagav Denki lanseringen av Monster Force 5 . Den 14 januari 2014 tillkännagav Denki lanseringen av All Over The Place: Australia för BBC.

Den 5 juli 2017 tillkännagav Denki den offentliga releasen av sin "Autonauts"-demo via spelplattformen Itch.io. Efter en framgångsrik lansering lockade spelet finansiering från UK Games Fund, vann bästa utbildningsspel vid årets TIGA-utmärkelser och blev snabbt ett av Itch.io:s topprankade gratisspel där det har legat kvar bland de 100 bästa sedan dess.

Den 11 februari 2019 meddelade Denki för medlemmar av dess Autonauts Discord-server att de hade tecknat ett avtal som skulle se att Autonauts publiceras för PC via Steam "mot slutet av året". Detta följdes av ett tillkännagivande den 16 juli 2019 av Curve Digital att de samarbetade med Denki för att ta deras "unika management-sim Autonauts till PC i höst" och att demoversionen hade laddats ner "över 300 000" gånger sedan lanseringen 2017. Spelet visades för första gången offentligt vid det årets Gamescom-konferens i Köln den 20-24 augusti där UKIE valde ut spelet att ta emot sin UK Game Of The Show-pris
