Alberto Sergio Cattaneo (26 juni 1967 i Milano ) är en italiensk matematiker och matematisk fysiker , specialiserad på geometri relaterad till kvantfältteori och strängteori .

Biografi

Efter att ha gått på Liceo scientifico A. Volta i Milano, studerade Cattaneo fysik vid universitetet i Milano och tog examen 1991. 1995 tog han en doktorsexamen i teoretisk fysik vid samma universitet; hans avhandling, med titeln Teorie topologiche di tipo BF ed invarianti dei nodi (Topologiska BF-teorier och knutinvarianter ), handledes av Maurizio Martellini.

Cattaneo arbetade som postdoc 1995-1997 vid Harvard University (med Arthur Jaffe ) och 1997-1998 vid University of Milan (med Paolo Cotta-Ramusino ). 1998 flyttade han till universitetet i Zürichs matematikavdelning som biträdande professor och han blev professor 2003.

2006 var han en inbjuden talare , med föredraget Från topologisk fältteori till deformationskvantisering och reduktion, vid International Congress of Mathematicians i Madrid . Cattaneo valdes till Fellow i American Mathematical Society 2013.

Forskning

Cattaneos forskningsintressen inkluderar deformationskvantisering , symplektisk och Poisson-geometri , topologiska kvantfältteorier och de matematiska aspekterna av perturbativ kvantisering av mätteorier .

Tillsammans med Giovanni Felder utvecklade han en vägintegral tolkning av deformationskvantiseringen av Poisson-grenrör (introducerad 2003 av Maxim Kontsevich ), såväl som en beskrivning av den symplektiska groupoiden som integrerar en Poisson-grenrör som en oändligt dimensionell symplektisk kvot .

Han handlede 14 doktorander från och med 2022.
