Stefan Alter

Stephen Alter (född 1956) är en författare av facklitteratur och skönlitteratur, som föddes och växte upp i Indien , där han växte upp som son till amerikanska missionärer . Han bor i Littleton , Colorado , USA och Landour , Uttarakhand , Indien .

Han tog examen från Woodstock School (där hans far, Robert Alter, tjänstgjorde som rektor från 1968 till 1978) i Landour och därefter från Wesleyan University .

Han har undervisat i skrivande vid Massachusetts Institute of Technology och vid American University i Kairo . Han har tilldelats Fulbright-programmet och Guggenheim Fellowship- stipendier och fått en hedersexamen från Wesleyan University. Han är grundare av Mussoorie Mountain Festival. Hans memoarer Becoming a Mountain: Himalayan Journeys in Search of the Sacred and the Sublime fick 2015 Kekoo Naoroji Award for Himalayan Literature. Hans roman om Jim Corbett In the Jungles of the Night nominerades till 2017 års DSC-pris för sydasiatisk litteratur. Hans senaste fackbok, Wild Himalaya: A Natural History of the Greatest Mountain Range on Earth, vann Banff Book Award i kategorin Natural History and Environment. Den vann också Kekoo Naoroji Award och nominerades till Kamaladevi Chatopadhyay NIF Book Prize.
