Selangor och Singapore var en fotbollsrivalitet som inträffade mellan 1921 och 1994. Det är det äldsta fotbollsderbyt i malaysisk fotboll.
Klubbarna var de mest framgångsrika lagen i Malaysia, efter att ha vunnit 71 stora utmärkelser mellan sig, 28 för Singapore och 43 för Selangor . De flesta av utmärkelserna de vann kom från Malaysia Cup . Båda var också de mest stödda lagen i malaysisk fotboll. Varje match mellan dessa två lag väckte stort intresse från fansen på grund av dess intensitet.
Samad Allapitchay , Singapore FA- kapten under Malaysia Cup-finalen 1977, noterade att han sa "Fotbollsrivaliteten mellan Singapore och Selangor har alltid varit speciell. På planen hatade vi varandra".
Historia
Det första mötet mellan lagen är officiellt den 1 oktober 1921 under 1921 års Malaya Cup- final där Singapore besegrade Selangor med 2-1. Inofficiellt finns det ett rekord av vänskapsmatcher som heter "Klassiker" från 1901 till 1913 mellan dessa två lag, där Singapore vann sin första upplaga. Under förkrigsåren var Singapore och Selangor FA en dominerande kraft och hårda rivaler, och vann cupen 19 gånger mellan dem. Efterkrigsåren dominerades också av Singapore och Selangor fram till 1970, där Selangor dök upp som den dominerande kraften i Malaysia Cup med elva cupvinster, jämfört med två segrar av Singapore.
Rivaliteten upphörde när Singapore drog sig ur Malaysian League 1994 på grund av en tvist med fotbollsförbundet Malaysia (FAM) om biljettproblem. Från 2011 till 2015 gick en ny Singapore-representant, LIONSXII, med i Malaysian League. Men truppen var landet under 23-lag och bunden till flera specialiteter (kommer inte att behöva möta nedflyttning och oförmögen att rekrytera utländska spelare).
