Richard Purtill (1931-2016) var en amerikansk filosof och författare och professor emeritus i filosofi vid Western Washington University, Bellingham , Washington , USA. Han var aktiv i professionella skrivarkretsar och var medlem i Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America , Authors Guild och National Writers Union .

Hans bok JRRTolkien: Myth, Morality and Religion vann 1987 Mythopoeiic Scholarship Award for Inklings Studies .
