Reece Jones (geograf)

Reece Jones (född 1976) är en amerikansk politisk geograf och Guggenheim Fellow . Jones utbildades vid University of North Carolina vid Chapel Hill och University of Wisconsin i Madison .

Liv och karriär

Jones är för närvarande professor i geografi och miljö vid University of Hawai'i i Manoa . Han var ordförande för Political Geography Specialty Group i American Association of Geographers 2014–15. Han är chefredaktör på tidskriften Geopolitics . Han är också medredaktör för Routledge Geopolitics Book Series med Klaus Dodds . Han utsågs till Fellow i American Association of Geographers 2023.

Våldsamma gränser

Jones är mest känd för sitt arbete med gränsmurar , militariseringen av gränser och ökningen av migrantdöd. Hans bok Violent Borders: Refugees and the Right to Move hävdar att att skapa och upprätthålla en gräns är en i sig själv våldsam handling. Citatet för PolGRG Book Award från Royal Geographical Society kallade Violent Borders en av de mest "inflytelserika politiska geografiböckerna som publicerats på senare tid." Jones skriver för en populär publik genom åsiktsartiklar som argumenterar mot gränsmurar i The New York Times och för öppna gränser i The Guardian .
