Plantagerna i Leon County var många och stora. Leon County , i den amerikanska delstaten Florida , var ett riktigt bomullsrike . Från 1820-talet till 1850-talet lockade Leon County bomullsplantorer från Georgia , Virginia , Maryland , North och South Carolina , plus andra stater och utomlands till dess bördiga röda lerjordar och långa växtsäsong.

Slavar i Leon County

Under en tid och fram till de tidiga stadierna av inbördeskriget var Leon County den femte största producenten av bomull bland alla län i Georgia och Florida. (C. Paisley) . En annan källa uppger att Leon County ledde staten i bomullsproduktion. På grund av detta, 1840, fanns det 654 vuxna vita män, men 3980 "ägnade sig åt jordbruk". År 1860 bestod 73 % av befolkningen i Leon County av förslavade svarta personer; som var sant på andra håll i söder , översteg värdet av dessa förslavade personer vida värdet av all mark i länet.
