Mark Gevisser (född 1964) är en sydafrikansk författare och journalist. Hans senaste bok är The Pink Line: Journeys Across the World's Queer Frontiers ( 2020). Tidigare böcker inkluderar A Legacy of Liberation: Thabo Mbeki and the Future of the South African Dream och Lost and Found in Johannesburg: A Memoir. Tidigt liv

Mark Gevisser föddes 1964 i Sydafrika till en familj med litauiskt judiskt arv. Han tog examen från Yale University 1987 magna cum laude med en examen i jämförande litteratur .

Karriär

Gevisser började sin karriär i New York, där han arbetade för Village Voice och The Nation innan han återvände till Sydafrika 1990. Under åren har hans arbete publicerats i Mail & Guardian, The Sunday Times , Sunday Independent , The New York Times Magazine , The Observer , The Guardian och New York Times .

Gevissers bok om den sydafrikanske presidenten , Thabo Mbeki: The Dream Deferred , vann 2008 års Alan Paton Award ; hans politiska profiler samlades som Portraits of Power: Profiles in a New South Africa, publicerad 1996; och han co-redigerade Defiant Desire: Gay and Lesbian Lives in South Africa med Edwin Cameron .
