Irena Dorota Backus (1950 – 13 juni 2019) var professor i reformationens historia vid universitetet i Genève .

Liv

Backus föddes i Polen 1950 och studerade vid Somerville College, Oxford . Hon doktorerade 1976, med en avhandling om Theodore Bezas inflytande på det engelska nya testamentet, publicerad 1980 som The Reformed Roots of the English New Testament: The Influence of Theodore Beza . Från 1982 var hon anställd vid Institutet för reformationshistoria i Genève. En Festschrift till hennes ära publicerades 2018, Crossing Traditions: Essays on the Reformation and Intellectual History in Honor of Irena Backus , redigerad av Maria-Cristina Pitassi och Daniela Solfaroli Camillocci i samarbete med Arthur Huiban (Leiden, Brill).

Hon var tvungen att sluta arbeta genom en stroke 2014 och dog i Genève den 13 juni 2019.
