Historia

Arrondissementet Châteauroux skapades 1800. Vid omorganisationen av arrondissementen Indre i januari 2017 fick det åtta kommuner från arrondissementet La Châtre, och det förlorade en kommun till arrondissementet Le Blanc och en kommun till arrondissementet La. Châtre.

Som ett resultat av omorganisationen av Frankrikes kantoner som trädde i kraft 2015 är kantonernas gränser inte längre relaterade till arrondissementens gränser. Kantonerna i arrondissementet Châteauroux var från och med januari 2015:
