Morag Crichton Timbury FRCPG FRCPath FRSE FRCP (född McCulloch) (29 september 1930 – 28 april 2018) var en skotsk medicinsk virolog , bakteriolog och vetenskapsskribent.

tidigt liv och utbildning

Morag Crichton McCulloch föddes den 29 september 1930. Hennes föräldrar var Dr Esther Sinclair McCulloch ( född Hood) och William McCulloch. Hon gick på St Bride's High School i East Kilbride innan hon studerade medicin vid University of Glasgow . Hon tog examen från universitetet med en MB ChB 1953 och MD 1960 och doktorerade 1976.

Karriär

Efter examen arbetade hon från 1960 till 1963 vid Regional Virtus Laboratory, i Ruchill Hospital , Glasgow som Sir Maurice Bloch Research Fellow in Virology. Hon var lektor (1963–1965) och universitetslektor (1965–1976) i bakteriologi vid University of Glasgow, och därefter läsare i virologi (1976–78). Hon fortsatte med att bli professor i bakteriologi och William Teacher Lecturer (1978–88) vid universitetet och chef för Institutionen för bakteriologi vid Glasgow Royal Infirmary . 1988 utsågs Timbury till chef för Central Public Health Laboratory of the Public Health Laboratory Service , och hon hade den positionen fram till 1995. Hon var gästlektor vid Baylor College of Medicine i Houston, Texas , USA (1975), och besökte Mayne gästprofessor vid University of Queensland , Brisbane , Australien (1990) och hedersgästprofessor i virologi vid Imperial College School of Medicine (1997–99).

1998 var Timbury kommittémedlem i Independent Review Group for Review of Food-related Scientific Services i Skottland. Den resulterande rapporten från gruppen, The Timbury Report, fick sitt namn efter henne.

Hon var gift med professor Gerald Charles Timbury (d. 1985), dekanus för post-graduate medicine vid University of Glasgow, konsult psykiater och läkare superintendent vid Gartnavel Royal Hospital, Glasgow från 1965 till 1980. Tillsammans hade de en dotter, Judith . Timbury dog ​​i Edinburgh den 28 april 2018.
