Louis Daniel Brodsky

Louis Daniel Brodsky (Louis Brodsky, LD Brodsky) (17 april 1941 – 16 juni 2014) var en amerikansk poet , novellförfattare och Faulkner -forskare.

Liv

Louis Daniel Brodsky föddes i St. Louis, Missouri, 1941. Han gick på St. Louis Country Day School. Efter att ha tagit en BA, magna cum laude , vid Yale University 1963, fick han en MA i engelska från Washington University 1967 och en MA i kreativt skrivande från San Francisco State University året därpå. Han gifte sig med Jan Hofmann 8 juli 1970 och fick två barn.

Från 1968 till 1987, medan han fortsatte att skriva poesi, hjälpte han till med att leda en fabrik för 350 personer för herrkläder i Farmington, Missouri, och startade en av Mellanvästerns första klädkedjor. Från 1980 till 1991 undervisade han i engelska och kreativt skrivande, deltid, vid Mineral Area College, i närliggande Flat River. Från 1987 och framåt bodde han i St. Louis, med sin fru och sin dotter och son, och ägnade sig åt att komponera dikter och korta fiktioner.

Brodsky författade åttiofyra diktvolymer (varav fem har publicerats på franska av Éditions Gallimard) och tjugofem prosavolymer, inklusive nio stipendieböcker om William Faulkner och nio korta skönlitterära böcker. Hans dikter och essäer har dykt upp i Harper's , Faulkner Journal , Southern Review , Texas Quarterly , National Forum , American Scholar , Studies in Bibliography , Kansas Quarterly , Forum , Cimarron Review och Literary Review , samt i Ariel , Acumen , Orbis , New Welsh Review , Dalhousie Review och andra tidskrifter. Hans verk har också tryckts i fem upplagor av Anthology of Magazine Verse och Yearbook of American Poetry .

Brodskys You Can't Go Back, Exactly vann Center for Great Lakes Culture's, Michigan State University 2004 pris för bästa poesibok.

Hans senaste poesiböcker inkluderar A Mississippi Trilogy och The Words of My Mouth och The Meditations of My Heart , som han skrev under sin flera år långa resa med hjärncancer. Han dog i cancer i juni 2014.
