Lloyd Henry Gaston (2 december 1929 – 24 september 2006) var en kanadensisk teolog , protestantisk bibelforskare , docent och professor emeritus i Nya testamentet vid Vancouver School of Theology , Vancouver, British Columbia, Kanada. Han var också president i Canadian Society of Biblical Studies och pastor i United Presbyterian Church i Amerikas förenta stater .

Biografi

Gaston föddes i Mongatown, West Virginia. Han ordinerades i United Presbyterian Church i USA, 1961, och tjänstgjorde som pastor i First Presbyterian Church, Hamburg, New Jersey, fram till 1963.

Utbildning

Gaston tog examen från Horace Mann School i New York City. 1952 studerade Gaston vid Dartmouth College och fick sin BA suma cum laude med utmärkelse i filosofi, och han var medlem i Delta Upsilon Fraternity . Han tog examen Phi Beta Kappa 1952 efter att ha tagit ledigt ett år för att studera i Frankrike och Schweiz. Han tjänstgjorde två år i den amerikanska armén och fortsatte sedan forskarstudier vid universitetet i Basel, Schweiz. Med sin avhandling No stone on another: studies in the significance of the fall of Jerusalem in the synoptic gospels 1967 fick Gaston sin ThD summa cum laude vid universitetet i Basel, Schweiz, i Nya testamentet. Han studerade också vid Ulpan Ezion, Jerusalem, 1970.

Akademiskt arbete

Undervisning

Gaston hade en 40-årig akademisk karriär. Från 1963 till 1973 undervisade han vid Department of Religion, Macalester College i St. Paul, Minnesota, och under denna tid tog han sin ThD vid University of Basel. Från 1973 var han gästprofessor i Nya testamentet vid United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities . Efter att Gaston undervisat i dessa högskolor, kallades Gaston 1973, och från 1973 till 1978 var Gaston docent i Nya Testamentet vid Vancouver School of Theology. Från 1978 var Gaston professor i Nya testamentet vid Vancouver School of Theology fram till sin pensionering 1995, där han blev emeritusprofessor. Som professor emeritus fortsatte han att undervisa.

Från 1986 till 87 var Gaston ordförande för Canadian Society of Biblical Studies CSBS (eller Société Canadienne des Études Bibliques SCÉB).
