Leonard W. Roberts

Leonard W. Roberts (28 januari 1912 - 29 april 1983) var en tidig folklorist , professor och förläggare .

Roberts föddes i Floyd County, Kentucky till Lewis Jackson och Rhoda Jane (Osborn) Roberts. Han tog examen från Berea College innan han studerade kreativt skrivande vid University of Iowa . Roberts gick sedan på University of Kentucky , där han tog en doktorsexamen i engelska.

Medan han var på University of Kentucky började han samla folksagor från sina studenter och deras familjer. Roberts studerade senare folklore vid Indiana University innan han accepterade en position som professor vid Pikeville College . Medan han var på Pikeville College grundade han en press som publicerade den litterära tidskriften Twigs (som senare blev Cumberlands ), såväl som talrika poesiböcker och regional historia. Under sin karriär undervisade Roberts också vid Berea Foundation School, Morehead State University , Union College (Kentucky) och West Virginia Wesleyan College .

Roberts dödades i en trafikolycka och ligger begravd i Ivel, Kentucky .
