John James Veevers (13 oktober 1930 – 12 augusti 2018) var en australisk professor i geologi och stipendiat vid Australian Academy of Science .

Utbildning

Veevers är son till George Stanley Veevers och Dulcie Annie (född James) och gick på Newington College (1944–1947). 1946 vann han Wigram Allen-stipendiet, begåvat av Sir George Wigram Allen , för allmän skicklighet. I slutet av 1947 utsågs Veevers till Dux of the College och fick Schofield-stipendiet och Halse Rogers-priset. Han gick upp till University of Sydney och tog examen som Bachelor of Science 1952 och en Master of Science 1954.

Akademisk karriär

Veevers var en kadettgeolog vid Bureau of Mineral Resources, Geology and Geophysics , Canberra , (1948–1951), och blev geolog (1952–1960) och senior geolog 1961–1967. 1968 utnämndes han till universitetslektor vid Macquarie University och har sedan dess varit professor vid institutionen för jord- och planetvetenskap. Han tilldelades sin doktorsexamen 1956 från Imperial College London .
