års Sydney till Hobart Yacht Race , sponsrad av Rolex och värd av Cruising Yacht Club of Australia i Sydney , New South Wales , var den 64:e årliga körningen av "blåvattenklassikern" Sydney till Hobart Yacht Race . 2008 års upplaga började på Sydney Harbour , kl. 13.00 på annandag den 26 december 2008, innan den begav sig söderut för 630 nautiska mil (1 170 km) genom Tasmanhavet, förbi Bass Strait , in i Storm Bay och uppför floden Derwent , för att korsa mållinjen i Hobart , Tasmanien . Detta markerade 10-årsdagen av 1998 års Sydney till Hobart Yacht Race, under vilken 6 sjömän dog på grund av en stor storm.

2008 års flotta bestod av 100 startande; 92 klara. Genom att placera sig först i raden, Wild Oats XI den första yachten att göra anspråk på fjärde radtitlar i rad, och slog det tidigare rekordet som hölls av Morna (senare Kurrewa IV ) av tre radsegrar i rad (1946, 1947 och 1948). Skepparen Bob Steel och hans yacht Quest vann Tattersall's Cup som vinnare av det totala handicapet.
